Riot Games is conducting a player-participation event in their flagship MOBA (Mulitiplayer Online Battle Arena) game League of Legends (LoL) to donate to a social contribution fund.
Through this campaign, Riot Games will run in-game events and raise up to $1 million in donations. The donation will be used for the 'Eden Reforestation Project' for restoring the forest landscape in the Chimanimani area of Mozambique.
Players can participate in the donation by completing a series of 15 missions related to the 2023 World Championship by 4:59 PM on November 28th, such as achieving 40 kill/assist, defeating 5 epic monsters with allies, and killing 15 champions sequentially. Riot Games will donate $1 for every 100 players who complete the missions, up to a maximum of $1 million.
Starting from October 19th, Riot Games, along with Amazon Web Services (AWS), will organize the 'Take the Drake for Water’s Sake' event. For every sea dragon defeated from the Swiss stage to the final of the 2023 LoL World Championship, donations will be made to address water issues worldwide. AWS plans to donate funds to Water.org to build wells that can serve around 70,000 people after the World Championship.
The 'Social Impact Fund' is a non-profit organization that oversees Riot Games' social contribution activities around the world through players' influence. Since 2019, Riot Games has been engaging in social contribution activities through the Social Impact Fund. Last year, they donated approximately $4.5 million to support humanitarian relief efforts in Eastern Europe, including Ukraine, through the fund. Earlier this year, they raised funds of around $6 million and selected donation recipients through player voting.
